It is time to follow the lead of the animals and start storing for the winter. Here in Montana, the fall harvest has begun. I have a few tips to get you started and save you money this the winter.
- Head to your local farmers market and stock up on onion, potatoes, winter squash, carrots and garlic.
- Can your peaches and pears for use in the cold winter months. Canning is not hard. Find someone in your community who has done it before and have a canning party.
- Instead of making a small batch of salsa, make a ton, can it as well
- Hit your local apple farms and pick a few boxes and store in a cool dry place or make applesauce. You can freeze or can it.
- Shred up zucchini and freeze in 2 cup serving sizes for zucchini bread, or other tasty treats this winter
